The Gambling Industry Monthly Review – May 2022

With May passed the summer is coming in full speed, it’s time to take a look back and see what has marked the iGaming industry last month. While regulators had their hands full, the new amazing slots with revolutionary features hit the market as the streamers hit some massive winnings.

New Exciting Slots That Have Marked The Month

Another month, another bunch of amazing new slots seeing the light of day, with Pragmatic Play releases leading the way. It’s hard to compete with such a productive provider who launches up to 5 new slots per month. In may, Pragmatic showed the full range of its diversity.

The first title, at the beginning of the month, Fire Strike 2, is the sequel to the brand’s popular game. Like the original, it came with huge winning potential of up to 25,000x the bet and high volatility. Already thrilling gameplay is enhanced with added free spins feature, but Firestrike bonus symbols or Firestrike Wilds continue to be the star of the show.

After the fiery action, it was time for mythical beasts to crawl out of the gutter and take their place on reels in the 5×3 slot Goblin Heist PowerNudge. Equipped with a max prize of up to 4,000x the stake and high volatility, the slot sees the return of the PowerNudge feature intertwined with a few more powerful bonus features.

If you prefer the crime theme, maybe The Great Stick-up 5×3 grid slot with 20 paylines is more up your alley. The gangsters in a small North American town in the 60s with police on their tale are doing their best to run away, triggering the free spins and sticky mystery symbols on the way. It is an action-packed game with up to 5,000x the bet winning potential.

Those who want to go deeper into the past to the era of pharaoh should check out Pragmatic’s Cleocatra slot. In this 5×4 grid slot with 40 paylines, the Ancient Egypt theme is presented in a new light – with cats as rulers. The winning potential rises up to 5,000x the bet, while two bonus games awarding respins and free spins are there to spice up highly volatile gameplay.

Another homage to the great ancient civilization comes by Quickspin in its Azitcon Chaos Clusters slot. With a colossal max prize of up to 25,000x the stake, this slot reinvents the genre of cascading slots with its innovative Chaos Clusters feature. Free Spins Bonus round and a progressive multiplier add the special kick to the already super exciting gameplay.

Casino Streamers’ Big Wins in May

This month hasn’t seen some epic wins by the famous streamers like the Roshtein’s win of over $17 million, but it did has noted some excellent six-figure hits. Not only that the king of online casino streaming has struck some impressive numbers, he also managed again and again to brake a few of his personal best.

That was the case when Rosh played the Mystery Museum slot and got a $2.5 million win in yet another thrilling bonus opening. For this team, he honored the viewer’s requests and spend a good part of it on the bonus battle between Mystery Museum and Big Bamboo slots.

However, this stunning win was not won during this part of the stream. After the bonus battle, he bought the Mystery Museum bonus round at $400 bet for $76,600 and got 8 free spins. The 4th free spin changed the game and led to this amazing result and a new record for this slot.

Another win for the streamer that marked May 2022 happened in the Chaos Crew slot. As you can guess, Roshtein hit a new personal best in this slot as well. And he wins it big – $3.1 million!

The streamer bought the bonus and it paid like never before. This Hacksaw title appears regularly in Rosh’s streams and has shown its potential more than once. But this time, the bonus perks lined perfectly together increasing the total multiplier to an incredible 6,311x the bet, creating a huge win of over 3 million dollars.

What About Gambling Legislation?

Regulative bodies in Europe have their hands full in May 2022 with most actions turning toward investigating do the operators follow rules and issuing penalties for violations. Dutch regulator de Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) might have been the busiest one, as it has taken action against 37 operators who operated gaming machines without the correct permits. All of these operators ceased the violations, except one who will face an order for a penalty.

While KSA is investigating violations, the Belgian government is going even stricter with a proposal of a complete ban on gambling advertising. If introduced, the ban would apply to advertisements for all games of chance legally available online and in land-based facilities, with the exception of the country’s National Lottery.

In the other news from the industry, the Ministry of Culture and Gender Equality of Norway has submitted a new Gambling Act for consultation. The new Gambling Act will replace the Lottery Act, the Totalizator Act and the previous Gambling Act, and one of the most significant parts of it is the introduction of “infringement fees” for operators that violate it.

In the LATAM market, the Secretariat of Evaluation, Planning, Energy and Lottery (SECAP) of Brazil has published its rules for sports betting in the country, which will be regulated by the Ministry of the Economy. Rules include an obligatory license fee of $4.4m and setting up a subsidiary in Brazil for operators based abroad who want to operate in this country.

In the neighborhood country Argentina, the country’s second-most-populous province Córdoba has opened its tender process for online gambling licenses. There are 10 gambling licenses on offer, each valid for 15 years.

Moving on to the other side of the globe, on May 3rd president of the Philippines, Rodrigo Duterte, ordered an end to online cockfighting, also known as e-sabong. This decision is a result of a survey on the “social impact” of e-sabong on the Filipino people, while the order took effect the very next day.

If you recall the monthly iGaming review for April, there were words about Kenya planning to increase its controversial stakes on betting stakes to a stipe 20%. Luckily for operators, Kenya Finance Committee has thrown out the government’s tax hike plan and kept the originally planned 7.5% tax on betting stakes.
