Changes in Online Gambling Legislation
SRIJ, the Portuguese gambling regulator, has put a new rule in place on March 18, banning the posting of odds for live sports events online or in the venue. It states that operators can’t publish live odds on matches on any platform, including LED advertising boards inside stadiums and arenas.
This decision mirrors similar regulations in other European nations including the Netherlands, where law prohibits advertising during sports events in order to discourage players from impulsive betting. Speaking of this country, the Dutch government has addressed and fixed a loophole in its gambling regulation which could have allowed minors to deposit money and place wagers.
The Belgian government has also introduced new restrictions, regarding stakes, betting times and advertising for the country’s newsagents. These changes to the original Royal Decree finally came into force on March 5 this year after being signed off on February 2021.

Across the pond, Missouri is struggling to legalize sports betting. A bill aiming to legalize sports betting in Missouri passed its final house reading on March 24 and it’s on its way to the state Senate.
Kentucky edges closer to legalizing sports betting, fantasy sports and online poker as the bill addressing these items has been passed by a House committee, bringing it a step closer to becoming law.
After proposing two amendments, the state’s legislative committee has approved a Senate Bill 294 to allow both casino gaming and sports betting in Alabama. This bill would allow the creation of commercial casinos in the state for the first time, alongside licensed sports betting, both retail and online.
